COMMON BOSTON

... ou a maneira perfeita de ocupar o meu tempo!

Que isto de não ter trabalho é uma enorme treta não há a mais pequena dúvida - pelo menos para quem, como eu, não se pode dar ao luxo de fazer vida de dondoca - mas eu sou apologista de que devemos procurar oportunidades mesmo quando as circunstâncias não são à partida as mais positivas!

Foi precisamente com esta perspectiva em mente que me ocorreu que podia começar a fazer algum tipo de voluntariado - para além de ajudar a ocupar o imenso tempo que tenho disponivel, seria ao mesmo tempo uma excelente forma de conhecer pessoas - e foi ai que encontrei este evento fantástico que é o Common Boston!

E o que é o Common Boston, perguntam vocês!?
E eu respondo... não é nada mais do que a resposta às minhas preces - hehehe - ora senão vejam bem...

É um programa da Boston Society of Architects que tem como missão organizar um festival que todos os anos procura celebrar o ambiente construido - as ruas, paisagens, edificios e comunidades - que torna esta uma cidade tão particular. E uma vez que se trata de um evento gratuito conta com a ajuda de voluntários para o planear e organziar! Eu não disse que era perfeito?!

Este ano o festival vai focar a sua atenção em dois dos principais "corredores" de Boston: a Dorchester Avenue e o Porto de Boston. Terá lugar entre os dias 30 de Maio e 9 de Junho e conta com variadíssimos eventos: a dParty - festa de inauguração - o CB Challenge - rally paper de 24 horas - o Common Boston Common Build - competição de design/construção - entre muitos outros.

Eu vou estar envolvida na organização do Common Boston Common Build - que posso desde já avançar este ano será especial - e estou ansiosa por pôr as mãos à obra!

... or the perfect way to get busy!

There's no doubt that not having a job is not fun at all - at least for those who, like me, who can't afford a traveling & shopping kind of life - however, I believe we should look for opportunities even when circumstances are not the best!

It was with this perspective in mind that it struck me that I could start doing some kind of volunteer work - in addition to helping me occupy the a lot of time I have available, it would be a great way to meet people - and that's when I discovered this fantastic event which is the Boston Common!

What is the Boston Common, you ask!?

And so I tell you... is nothing but than the answer to my prayers - hehehe - if not look...

It is a program of the Boston Society of Architects whit the mission to organize an annual, multi-day festival that every year celebrates the design environment - streets, landscapes, buildings and neighborhoods - that help making this such a special city. And since this is a free event it relies on the help of volunteers to plan and organize! Didn't I say it is perfect?!

This year the festival will focus on two of Boston main "corridors": the Dorchester Avenue and the Boston Harbor. It will take place between May 30 and June 9 and has numerous different events: the dParty - kick off party - CB Challenge - a 24 hours scavenger hunt - the Common Boston Common Build - a design/ built competition - among many others.

I'll be involved in the organization of Common Boston Common Build - that I can already advance will have a special twist this year - and I can't wait to get started!
