Hoje estou de luto!
Para quem não sabe ontem em todo o Estado de Massachusetts, como em Boston também, era feriado...
Salvo raras excepções - uma das quais, e graças a todos os anjinhos, o instituto do B. - ontem não se trabalhou! As escolas estiveram fechadas, os transportes públicos funcionaram a meio gás e muita gente teve direito a um dia de férias!
Era Patriot's Day! Dia de festa e de comemoração! Dia de maratona... da mais antiga maratona anual do mundo!
Eram por isso centenas as pessoas que estavam na rua... que quiseram aproveitar o feriado e ir até ao centro da cidade ver os corredores nesta que deve ser uma das provas mais exigentes e duras em que alguém pode participar!
Uma dessas pessoas era um rapaz de oito anos, Martin Richard, que se tinha deslocado até junto da meta para, juntamente com a irmã de seis anos e a mãe, verem o pai a terminar a maratona!
O Martin foi uma das três pessoas que ontem perdeu a vida nas explosões que levaram ainda à amputação de uma das pernas da sua irmã mais nova e a severas lesões cerebrais na sua mãe! O pai, que havia minutos antes cortado a meta final, apesar de fisicamente não ter sido atingido pela bomba, viu com ela desaparecer grande parte da sua vida!
É pelo Martin e por toda a sua familia que estou de luto...
É também pelas outras duas pessoas que perderam a vida com este atentado que estou de luto!
É por todos os que ficaram feridos e ainda lutam pela vida nos hospitais... é por eles e pelas suas familias e amigos que estou de luto!
É por esta cidade que me recebeu com os braços e coração aberto e que definitivamente não merecia sofrer um golpe tão baixo, tão forte e tão cruel!
É ainda por este país que mais uma vez é atacado cá dentro... no seu coração e sem saber por quem nem porquê!
Mas hoje estou de luto principalmente pelo mundo em que vivemos... este mundo em que a maldade humana consegue tomar proporções deste tamanho!
I'm grieving today!
For those who don't know, yesterday in the entire state of Massachusetts, and in Boston as well, was a holiday...
With few exceptions - one of which, and thank god, the institute where B. works - yesterday was a no working day! Schools were closed, public transport ran half gas and many people had right to a vacation day!
It was Patriot's Day! Day of celebration and commemoration! Day of Marathon... of the oldest annual marathon in the world!
That's why there were hundreds of people on the street... who wanted to enjoy the holiday and went to the city center to see the runners in one of the most demanding and hard tests anyone can take!
One of those people was a little eight year old boy, Richard Martin, who was near the finish line with his six year old sister and his mother so they could to see his father finishing the marathon!
Martin was one of the three people who yesterday lost their lives in the explosions that still led to the amputation of his younger sister legs and to severe brain injuries in his mother! The father, who minutes before had cut the finishing line, despite not physically hurt by the bomb, saw most of his life disappear!
It's for Martin and his entire family that I'm grieving...
It's also for the other two people who lost their lives in this attack that I am grieving!
It's for all those injured and still fighting for their life's in the hospital... is for them and their families and friends that I am grieving!
It's for this city that welcomed me with open arms and open hearts and that definitely did not deserve to take a hit so low, so strong and so cruel!
It's also for this country that is attacked yet again and not knowing by whom or why!
But today I am grieving mainly for the world we live in... this world in which human wickedness can take proportions like this!
