FADO NOVATO

Shay Estes, Beau Bledsoe e Jordan Shipley... São estes os nomes dos três americanos de Kansas City que formam o Fado Novato. O trio não tem qualquer relação com portugal - aliás todos eles nasceram bem no coração dos EUA - mas não poderam evitar apaixonar-se por este - tão nosso - estilo musical e até já gravaram um disco!

Segundo o site do grupo tudo começou com uma discussão num bar onde se tentava descobrir qual seria o estilo músical mais triste do mundo. Os três, depois de descobrirem a mútua fascinação pelo Fado, definiram um plano: tentariam executar o Fado como noviços não educados perante profissionais e iriam documentar o processo inteiro. A gravação do disco e um concerto seriam a parte culminante e o objetivo final do projecto. 

Convido-vos todos a ouvir e a ficarem tão maravilhados como eu fiquei! Estou curiosa por saber agora o que virá a seguir!


Shay Estes, Beau Bledsoe and Jordan Shipley... These are the names of the three american guys from Kansas City who form the Fado Novato. The trio has absolutely no relationship with Portugal - in fact they were all born right in the heart of the US - but couldn't avoid falling for this - so ours - musical style and have even recorded an album!

According to their website all started as an argument in a Kansas Sity tavern over which is the saddest music in the world.  The three, after they discovered a mutual fascination with Fado, set a plan: they would try to leran and perform Fado from uneducated novices to world-stage professionals and wiould document the entire process. A full-length studio recording and a concert wiould cap the project. 

I invite you all to hear and become as amazed as I was! I'm curious to know now what the next step will be!

It's absolutely fantastic to know that there are people in this world who are dedicated in turning really bad things into good ones! I'm well aware of the effort and devotion with which these professionals - doctors and scientists - go to work... all day... every day!

Here you can find a perfect example on how every sacrifice and dedication may be worth... And it's so worth it when miracles like these happen!

Porque hoje se festeja em Lisboa o dia de Sto. António e porque este ano não pude estar presente nas festas como é meu hábito de sempre - ou pelo menos desde que tenho idade para decidir por mim - fica aqui a minha homenagem à minha cidade - a melhor do mundo - e ao seu santo padroeiro.

Because today Lisbon is celebrating the St. Anthony's day and because this year I couldn't be at the festivities as is my habit - or at least since I am old enough to decide for myself - here is my tribute to my city - the best in the world - and its patron saint.

CC ALVALADE RENOVADO

Notícia do dia!

Ao que tudo indica o histórico e saudoso Centro Comercial de Alvalade vai voltar a abrir portas!

O Centro, agora propriedade da empresa Multicentro, foi totalmente renovado e prepara-se para reabrir em Setembro com um supermercado Pingo Doce, 30 outros espaços comerciais distribuidos por 2 pisos e ainda uma área dedicada a restauração com esplanadas!

Eu particularmente não poderia estar mais satisfeita com a noticia. Adoro ver o meu bairro a recuperar a sua antiga vitalidade!

E saber que o velhinho CC Alvalade onde tantas tardes passei... onde era a loja de animais em que tantas vezes fiquei com a testa colada - quem lá cresceu sabe do que falo! - onde era o "Sempre em Festa" em que comprava as decorações de todas as minhas festas de anos, e os cadernos, e as carteiras, e o estojo... onde era a loja de relógios em que comprei o meu primeiro swatch - e toda uma paixão teve inicio - basicamente onde eram tantos dos lugares que marcaram a minha infância, vai voltar a ser o ponto de referência para uma nova geração fez-me hoje muito feliz!

News of the day!

Apparently our late and historical Centro Comercial de Alvalade - Alvalade Shopping Center - will open it's doors once again!

The Center, now owned by the company Multicenter, has been fully renovated and is preparing to reopen in September with a Pingo Doce supermarket, 30 other commercial space spread over two floors and a brand new food court!

I personally couldn't be more happy with this news. I love to see my neighborhood regaining its former vitality!

And knowing that the old CC Alvalade, where I spent so many afternoons... Where the pet store where so many times I get my forehead glued was - who grew up there knows what I mean! - Where the store "Sempre em Festa" where I bought the decorations for all my birthday parties, and notebooks, and wallets, and the pencil case, was... where the watch shop where I bought my first swatch was - and a great new passion began - basically where so many places that marked my childhood were... is back and will be the benchmark for a new generation made ​​me today a very happy girl!

HOLY REDEEMER CHURCH

Igreja localizada na cidade de La Laguna em Tenerife, autoria do arquitecto Fernando Menis.

Uma construção dedicada à reflexão, à meditação, à introspecção. Uma construção que em si mesmo exala tranquilidade, espiritualidade. Uma construção austera e despojada de elementos supérfulos, assumindo por completo a sua natureza espiritual.

O edificio surge como um enorme pedaço de betão cortado em quatro grandes volumes cujo movimento separou. A luz - vista pelo autor como um dos mais importantes elementos em espaços religiosos - penetra zenitalmente no edificio pelos espaços gerados entre os volumes dando uma dimensão mistica - pelas palavras do autor - a cada quarto.

O betão, enquanto elemento construtivo, foi explorado quanto à sua eficácia térmica. As pedras vulcânicas - tão comuns no local - são utilizadas como revestimento melhorando a acústica.

"Ao entrar na igreja, tem-se a sensação de que se vem da escuridão para a luz, quero dizer, da morte para a vida.
A igreja é dedicada à Ressurreição, portanto, o impacto volumétrico dos grandes pedaços de betão, bem como a utilização racional e simbólica da luz dão origem a um templo religioso de raízes teológicas profundas e de grande qualidade espacial, onde a ressurreição é a personagem  principal e que através de luz, ilumina o crente. "(...) o poder, a força expressiva, a coerência e a qualidade do espaço do Projecto de Fernando Menis de uma profunda investigação teológico-simbólico e do uso mestre da luz, vertical focada cima para baixo, como é costume na arquitetura atemporal, demonstra uma peça de arquitectura considerada como uma obra de arte, uma obra única e singular, de alta qualidade formal, material e espacial."

Church, located in La Laguna on the island of Tenerife, designed by the architect Fernando Menis.

A building dedicated to reflection, meditation, introspection. A building which in itself oozes tranquility, spirituality. A construction austere and stripped of superfluous elements, assuming fully its spiritual nature.

The building appears as a huge piece of concrete cut into four large volumes in which separations movement occurs. The light - which the author sees as one of the most important elements in religious spaces - penetrates the building through the spaces generated between the volumes giving a mystical - in the words of the author - dimension to every room.

The concrete, while constructive element, has been explored for its thermal efficiency. The volcanic rocks - so common on site - are used as coating improving the acoustics.

“When entering into the church, the feeling of coming from the darkness to the light is experienced, I mean, from death to life.

The church is dedicated to the Resurrection, therefore, the great concrete pieces volumetric impact, and the rational and symbolic use of the light give birth to a religious temple of deep theological roots and great spatial quality where the resurrection is the main character y through light, illuminates the believer.” (…) the power, the expressive strength, the coherence and the quality of the space of Fernando Menis Project from a theological-symbolic deep investigation and from the master use of light, vertical light focused up to down, as usual in the timeless architecture, shows and architectural piece considered as a work of art, a unique and singular work, of high formal, material and spatial quality.”

OS DEUSES (DO TEMPO) DEVEM ESTAR LOUCOS!

S. Pedro amigo, tu vê lá se te atinas porque isto assim não vai dar! 

Eu já estava preparada - dentro dos possiveis - para o frio polar, para as temperaturas negativas e para a neve constante nos meses de inverno!

Estava preparada - a grande custo - para uma primavera e um verão mais ameno que aqueles a que estou habituada... e até já me tinha preparado para o tão famoso "sticky weather" - que é como quem diz tempo pegajoso!

Mas convenhamos que para aquilo que p'rá 'qui tem havido nas últimas semanas é coisinha para dar com qualquer em maluco... a sério!!! O tempo em Boston é - ou está - absolutamente esquizofrénico e não há forma de alguém se conseguir habituar a isto! Nunca...!!

Ora bem que num dia está um frio que não se pode... de ir buscar o casacão de inverno e as luvas ao fundo da gaveta - sim, que real feel de -2ºC é coisinha para assustar - ora que dois ou três dias depois estão + de 35ºC à sombra e anda tudo na rua de calções e havaianas. E acreditem que não estou de todo a exagerar, as temperaturas relatadas são absolutamente reais.

É de esquecer em três tempos a ideia de fazer troca de estação no roupeiro...

Expliquem-me lá como é que é suposto uma pessoa se orientar?! Eu já nem consigo decidir se me besunto toda em protector solar com FPS 50+ ecrã total antes de sair de casa ou se vou antes calçar as galochas e buscar o chapéu de chuva! É de doidos!!

Por isso S. Pedro... Bem sei que em portugal o pessoal tem tomado muita da tua atenção mas tu vê lá se voltas de novo para o lado de cá do Atlântico antes que isto desatine tudo de vez!!

Como se costuma dizer... a gerência agradece!

Big guy up there, you better put your act together 'cause there's no way this is going to work!

I was already getting used to - within possible - the frizzing cold, the negative temperatures and the constant snow in the winter months!

I was even getting ok - at great cost - with the idea of a spring and summer with milder temperatures than those to which I'm used to... and even to the so famous "sticky weather".

But lets face it... what's going around here for the past few weeks is something to make everyone crazy... seriously!! The weather in Boston is totally schizophrenic and there is no way someone will ever get used to it! Never...!!

Either you get a day as cold hell... to go and get your winter coat and your gloves to the bottom drawer again - yes, 'cause a 28ºF real feel is scary - or two or three days later you have 95ºF day and everyone is outside wearing shorts and slippers. And you can trust me, I'm for one second overstating, this temperatures are absolutely real. 

It's so that you will let go the idea of changing your wardrobe to your summer clothes in two times...

Can you explain me how am I supposed to guide myself?! I can't even decide if I should put my SPF 50+ sunblock or if I should put my rainning boots and take my umbrella before I go outside! It's crazy!

So big guy... I understand that in Portugal people have been taking much of your attention, but could you please take a look at these side of the Atlantic before this is totally messed up!
