Uma das coisas que mais impressionada me deixa aqui em Boston é o cuidado que existe com os espaços públicos... concretamente no que se refere aos parques e jardins. Acreditem... é impressionante e mais ainda quando comparado com a falta de cuidado que estou habituada a ver em Portugal - especialmente em Lisboa.

Mal a primavera começou e a temperatura começou a tornar-se mais amena foram precisos poucos dias para começar a ver os jardins e quintais das habitações a ganharem vida e cor com os donos a plantarem novas árvores e flores e a arranjarem e reabilitarem as existentes e mal tratadas pelo inverno.

E não pensem que isto se limita aos espaços privados... o cuidado e atenção prestados nos jardins e parques públicos foi exactamente o mesmo - mesmo nos canteiros na rua, separadores nas estradas, rotundas ajardinadas... basicamente em todo o lado - Onde quer haja um espaço verde pode agora ver-se flores coloridas e vistosas, árvores em flor e relvados verdes e brilhantes.

Este fim de semana, por exemplo, fomos passear pelo parque da cidade: O Boston Common - basicamente o mini Central Park aqui da cidade - e não fomos os únicos... Apesar do tempo ainda não estar tão simpático como poderia, centenas de pessoas tiveram a mesma ideia que nós e fizeram exactamente o mesmo.

O espaço é amplo e suficiente para quem queira conviver, praticar desporto ou outras actividades de lazer ou mesmo simplesmente relaxar na relva e a aproveitar um bom dia de sol. E as infrastruturas são excelentes com bastantes casas de banho portáteis a servir todo o espaço e diversos quiosques de petiscos e refrescos para quem quiser.

Deu gosto de ver e é sem dúvida um exemplo que deveríamos seguir aí desse lado do Atlântico.


One of the things I am most impressed here in Boston is the care and attention they spare with all public spaces... specifically with parks and gardens. And believe me... it is even more impressive when compared with the lack of care that I'm used to seeing in Portugal - especially in Lisbon.

As soon as spring started and the temperature started to become warmer it took a few days to start seeing the gardens and yards coming back to life and color with the owners planting new trees and flowers and rehabilitating the previous existing one miss treated by the winter weather.

And this is not confined to private spaces... the care and attention provided in public gardens and parks is exactly the same - even the flower boxes on the street, road dividers, traffic circle ... basically everywhere - Wherever there is a green area you can now see it full of color with beautiful flowers, flowering trees and green and bright lawns.

This weekend, for example, we went for a walk in the city park: The Boston Common - which is basically Boston's mini Central Park - and we were not alone... Although the weather is not yet as inviting as it could be, hundreds of other people had the same idea and did exactly the same.

The space is large enough and for those who want to socialize, play sports or other leisure activities or simply relax on the grass and enjoy a nice sunny day. And the infrastructure are excellent with plenty of portable toilets to serve the whole space and various kiosks selling snacks and refreshments.

It was great to see and is undoubtedly an example that we should follow over there on that side of the Atlantic.
