SPRING TROUBLE

Depois do maior nevão dos últimos 50 anos, das duas bombas na maratona e de uma perseguição hollywoodesca com direito a lockdown... eis que a nossa estadia nos EUA nos traz mais um episódio perfeitamente assustador.

Estávamos nós super animados com a chegada em força da primavera... com as suas temperaturas amenas, as suas flores coloridas e toda a boa disposição que traz às pessoas... até que descobrimos que com a ela chegam também outras coisas não tão agradáveis. Estou a falar de roedores... 

E se pensam que estou simplesmente a referir-me aos esquilos fofinhos - e quase do tamanho de coelhos - que se podem ver agora nos jardins desenganem-se... refiro-me mesmo a outro tipo de roedores bem mais nojento, mais concretamente a ratos. Isso mesmo... RATOS!

E como se não fosse suficientemente mau saber que eles existem "por ai" a história consegue tornar-se bem pior quando se descobre que as mesmas criaturas peludas e nojentas arranjaram uma maneira de entrar no nosso apartamento! 

Pois é... aconteceu... ao que tudo indica um - e espero mesmo que seja unica e exclusivamente um - desses amiguinhos descobriu o caminho perfeito pelas aberturas do ar condicionado/ sistema de aquecimento para entrar cá em casa. E ao que parece este fenómeno não é de todo anormal... todas as pessoas com quem falei do assunto ou já passaram pelo mesmo ou conhecem alguém que tenha passado.

Só vos tenho a dizer que é absolutamente nojento! Imaginar que temos um rato de rua... que se passeia pelo lixo e pela porcaria, a entrar em nossa casa é perturbador... tão perturbador ao ponto de ter tido sérias dificuldades em adormecer no dia em que o vi pelo canto do olho a escapulir-se novamente pelo a/c quando percebeu que não estava sozinho e que corria o risco de ser apanhado. E olhem que o bicho é rápido como tudo!

Agora estou num dilema... o que fazer?! Já me disseram que tenho de comprar ratoeiras e esperar por apanhá-lo mas não sei se tenho estômago para isso. Também já pensei em colocar veneno para ratos perto do sitio onde julgo que o bicho entra cá em casa e até besuntar algodões com extracto de hortelã-pimenta - que dizem ser um odor repelente - para o/os afugentar. Mas sinceramente tudo o que eu queria era ter a certeza absoluta que nenhum rato voltava a entrar cá em casa e isso pelos vistos nenhuma das opções o garante.

After the biggest snowstorm in 50 years, the two bombs in the marathon and a Hollywood-chase that even led to a lockdown... our stay in the US brings yet another scary episode.

We were super excited with springtime... with its mild temperatures, colorful flowers and all the good humor it brings everyone... when we discovered that it also comes with other not so pleasant things. I am talking about rodents...

And if you think I am referring to cuddly squirrels - almost the size of cats - which you can now see all around, make no mistake... I mean other kind of rodents... more disgusting ones, more specifically mice. That's right ... MICE!

As if it were not bad enough to know that they exist "out there" the story can become worse when you discover that the same furry, nasty creatures managed a way to get into our apartment!

That's right... it happened... it seems one - and I really hope it is just one - of these "little friends" found the perfect way through the openings of the air conditioning/ heating system to get inside. And it seems that this phenomenon is not at all abnormal... everyone I spoke with had or new someone who had gone through the same situation.

I can only say that is absolutely disgusting! To imagine that we have a street mousse... who goes around trash and crap coming into our house is absolutely disturbing... so disturbing that I had serious difficulties in falling asleep the night I saw it by the corner of my eye to slipping away again by the a/c system when he realized he was not alone and he could get caught. And the little beast is fast as hell!

Now I'm in a dilemma... what should I do?! I've been told that I need to buy traps and hope to catch it but I don't know if I have the stomach to do that. I have also thought about putting rat poison around the place where I think it enters and even smearing cottons with peppermint extract - who is believe to have an repellent odor. But honestly all I want was to be absolutely sure that no mouse would enter my apartment again, and unfortunately none of those things can guarantee that.
